Our first blog post! How exciting! Before getting stuck into everything personal and travel related, lets dig deep into the friendship that is Kate and Roisin! It starts off very early when we were just tots living a stone’s throw away in the same estate. Our families became close and our brothers became best friends which destined us to develop into something more than just two 3-year-old neighbors.
After we moved apart, our paths kept crossing. Although we went to different primary schools, Kate was still a welcomed guest to Roisin’s annual Summer Birthday pool parties (Roro never got a returned birthday party invite from Kate but let’s not dwell on that too much). As we grew, and the pool parties came to an end, it was all about our blossoming stage school friendship! We both adored our dorky stage school life, dancing and singing and mostly messing around laughing together! Our common silly humour developed into private jokes (which still make random appearances to this day and leaves us in stitches) and a lasting friendship.
Secondary school came around and low and behold we were placed into the same class where we not only remained friends but became apart of the same large amazing group of girls! Six years of lunches together, adventures, drama, parties, boys, laughter, tears, stress, debs and graduation with countless growth and endless memories.
But how did we stay so close after school and while away at college? Both of us took a few years to find our feet in what we wanted to do. We both spent some time in college in Dublin, living across the road from each other before Kate spread her wings to Galway and Roisin went home to study in Carlow soon after! 4 years apart with new lives and rare visits never changed anything. Real friendships are the ones where no matter how long you go without seeing each other, it will always be the same once you are reunited, and that was me and Kate! Now, we’re back at home together again and closer than ever. Working together, planning our littleBIG trip around the world together and talking every day; as the title says, we are the thorns on each other’s sides.
Since this blog is travel, lets dabble our toes into some of the adventures myself and Kate have had together over the years! Our first taste of independent travelling together was the infamous 6th year holiday to Santa Ponsa followed by our next Summer group holiday to Albufeira in Portugal the year after! Drinking holidays became old and a thirst for further exploration was needed which lead to our New York Summer together working in 2016 and of course the few dotted city breaks in Europe with the girls including Amsterdam and Cologne. Our most memorable trip together would have to be our life changing and eye-opening backpacking trip around Cuba in 2018 which will be funny to see and write our own perspectives on this trip in our blog’s… Way too Eventful!
So now that you know the origin of the weird but wonderful friendship of Kate and Roisin a.k.a. AuthentiKate and Runaway Ro, have a look at our other blogs where we delve deeper into who each of us are and our own stories! We can’t wait to start writing about all our trips and rehashing memories over the past few years of adventures and planning for our future! We hope you all enjoy!
