Hey, Hey, Hey, I really don’t have a clue on how to start this or what to say and to be honest, if you are reading this then I’m v surprised that someone is actually taking time out of their day to do so, so THAAAANKS and welcome, welcome. By now you may have read the “About Us” section on our website and possibly our first combined blog about myself and Ro’s relo but if not go on and have a read.
First of all, how would I describe myself for those who don’t know me? Well, I was never “book smart”, as they say; school isn’t for everyone! But I made up for it with my social EQ skills! Finding myself in a large group of amazing intelligent girls, I was more known for having the laugh and the craic than competing alongside them for those 600 points. In saying that, I am driven when it comes to things I care about and things I am good at and I achieve what I set out to do. I have come to the realisation that I have a “marmite” kind of personality; people either love me or hate me. To others and on the outside, I am a confident, outgoing and carefree girl but honestly, I’m really self-conscious, uncertain and anxious! Some may see my flaws as being too brutally honest at times and speaking my mind when I feel it is necessary; opinionated, moody, impulsive and accidentally confrontational to list a few more! However, what you see is what you get with me. In the spirit of keeping things positive, I am a hugely empathetic and compassionate person; when it comes to people I love and care about I have the biggest heart and wear it on my sleeve. I am extremely trusting and tend to seek the best in people I probably shouldn’t. I am happy, strong, stubborn, motivated, indecisive, caring, irritable, kind, openminded, emotional and adventurous! I miraculously carry both my anxiety and a “fuck it” attitude throughout my life and you’re welcome to experience each part; good and bad about me in the blog!
Now that you know me as a person, who am I professionally? As I have already mentioned, I am a 24-year-old girl from Carlow in Ireland. I have a degree in Events Management and Public Relations which I studied in Galway City. I fell in love with Galway and never wanted to come home but had a little biking accident while travelling in Cuba which resulted in me having to move home, but we’ll get to that story at a later date! I have always worked in either hospitality or events since the age of 16 and have worked in hotels, restaurants or bars in Carlow, Galway, New York and Sydney. However, I moved into the management side of the events sector while I lived in Sydney for a short period of time. I am currently working as the Events and Entertainment Manager for the Dinn Ri Group which own 7 venues including the Foundry Nightclub in Carlow. I am also in the middle of doing a level 5 in Digital Marketing and plan on doing both a course in Photography and a course in Human Resources after I finish that one.
With regards to the blog, I have always wanted to do it! It was just a matter of when I had the courage to bite the bullet and a day my anxiety was minimal, but really all I needed was a push (cheers to the OG gals and Abigail for said Push) and then when Roisin decided she was going to join me on this travel blogging adventure it really just added to all the excitement. It put me a little at ease and meant I had someone now to proof read my absolutely dyslexic ridden blogs (Why on earth I thought it would be a good idea to start a writing-based hobby is beyond me but that is another question we will just have to park to the side and leave unanswered). This is simply a fun way for myself and Roisin to document our travel journeys that we are planning to embark on in the near future (fingers crossed it will be sooner rather than later) and also to share our previous travel experiences both together and with other pals. What better than to be able to write about something I love, while travelling with my best friend and having it all documented on a website together. It has been an extremely exciting but busy few weeks starting up our Insta accounts, getting a new camera and starting a digital marketing course. Roisin finished her exams, got a job in a Lab and we made up our website and all that’s left now is to start writing. The most difficult thing I find about starting the process of writing is finding your style. I’m just going to go with the flow and wing it really. I’ll skip that step, be grand! I am sure my style will change a thousand times throughout this process but that’s all a part of this new journey, right?
I haven’t quite decided yet, but I am thinking of chatting about other parts of my life and may write that in a “Dear Diary” format about basic day to day shite, good and bad. Of course, that takes balls to share such personal stuff with anybody but yourself, never mind sharing it on the internet for anybody to see. Fucking daunting, but that’s where my “fuck it” attitude comes into play! However, it probably won’t happen anytime soon.
Honestly, it took a lot for me to put myself out there and even set up the Insta and website so I appreciate all the support so far! Remember, I am new to all this so no grief, just don’t bother reading it if you are going to cause hassle. “Go away, no drama here” says I.
What better way than to start at the very beginning (by beginning I mean the first time travelling without parents) and to go from there. So that’s what I am going to do. Start with holidays prior to all this covid-19 commotion and then go into the planning and researching of our new adventures.
Do what you love to do. That’s what I am doing.
Until the next chapter,
“Explore.Adventure.Understand”
